Toyota bosses have confirmed the RAV4 EV which was revealed at the 2010 LA motor show, and it will go on sale early next year.
The Japanese brand revealed a statement saying it “anticipates robust public interest” in the car.
The newcomer is the first fruit in the Toyota’s £30.1million investment in US electric car pioneer Tesla.
The 300Kg battery back which is mounted under the floor, will power a 148bhp electric motor to give the car a 0-62mph sprint time of just 9 seconds and a top speed of 100mph. With the car you can reach 100 miles Will a 12-hour charge.
However, there is bad news, this is that the RAV4 EV will only be available in the US when it first goes on sale in the beginning of 2012, but a UK spokesman hinted that it might be available in the UK within the next 2 years.
The new car is only the beginning for Toyota and its electric plans. Next year Toyota will be releasing on the road a number of battery-power IQ city cars, and there will be a UK production version hinted for 2014.
