Next Generation Smart ForTwo To Be More Spacious
Smart has just revealed their new concept car, the ForStars concept and it is expected to make its public debut this month at the Paris Auto Show. The ForStars concept is a follow-up to the Smart pickup concept, the For-Us which was revealed in Detroit earlier this year. In a way, the designers at Smart are hinting to us that they are thinking of making the later generations of the ForTwo much bigger in size.

In terms of dimensions, the ForStars concept is definitely much bigger compared to the current Smart ForTwo. The ForStars measures in 33.7 inches longer than the ForTwo, marking an increase of length of 30%. The ForStars is also wider by 5.9 inches. The extra length of the ForStars concept comes where it is most important – the wheelbase. The wheelbase of the ForStars is elongated to 97.2 inches.
If the ForStars concept makes it into production, the new dimensions should not only make the new Smart more spacious, but also more dynamic than the preceding model.
The power is generated by an electric motor which is also found in the Brabus-developed ForTwo Electric Drive. The electric motor built by the German tuner delivers 80hp to the rear wheels and generates 99lbft of torque. This electric unit is also capable of propelling the ForStars concept to a top speed north of 80mph. A 17.6 kWh lithium-ion battery powers the electric motor.
Probably due to the added wheelbase, the Forstars features a lot of storage facilities, more than that of a normal SUV or a crossover. To make the cabin feel more light and airy, the tailgate and the roof are made of glass.
The ForStars is also painted in an Alubeam Rouge colour, offset by the Smart’s trademark Tridion safety cell in a matte finish.
The ForStars is catered to the youth market, thus to increase its appeal among the younger people, the car gets its bonnet integrated with a nifty video projector to allow friends to get together to watch movies – your own drive-in cinema. It also includes features like Bluetooh and iPhone connectivity as well as seat covers that can be customized to your liking!
