As soon as VW release a new model its only a matter of time before an R model gets linked to the newcomer and so it is to be expected that with the all new Jetta that was displayed in Germany a Hot version wouldn’t be too far behind. News coming in though make the idea of a Jetta R sound very likely with VW showing a number of journalists a 3.6 V6 Jetta that had the DSG box and 4 motion drive system but wouldn’t confirm release date or specs. Its likely that Volkswagen would be looking to release a car for world wide markets similar to what Ford plan to do with the new Focus and in that case a lumpy Jetta would be ideal for the US where the Jetta name is well known and would be well received. With the current trend for UK hot hatch vehicles to be downsized in the engine department like the Focus ST losing the 2.5 down to a 2.0 litre model its unlikely to sell well in this format. With VW having formed recently the new VW R division its sure to say that the Jetta will be hitting their operating table sometime soon!
