Having personally driven past one yesterday and thinking to myself “WTF?” the Honda CR-Z is starting to be spotted all over the UK. The ultra high tech CR-Z is currently available with a hybrid that combines a 112bhp 1.5 litre petrol engine and a 14bhp electric motor. Plans are afoot for Honda to launch a petrol model that should propel the newcomer up to legendary status along side the Civic Type R. The 1.6 litre option is presently undergoing development and highlights the current trend of downsizing engine sizes with many car manufacturers. Using Hondas VTEC variable camshaft system the performance of the 1.6 is similar to that of a 2.0 litre engine. With rumours indicating that the Petrol version could have upto 200 bhp a CR-Z Type R model seems very likely.
