The performance of the Continental GT speed surpasses even the very expensive £160,000 Bentley Continental Supersports and it is set to piss on the bonfire of Aston Martin’s new Vanquish.
The Continental GT Speed is powered by a high performance 6.0-liter W12 engine with twin turbochargers. The result of mixing a W12 with a pair of turbochargers? 616bhp with a staggering 590lbft of torque. That’s 61bhp and 37lbft more than the old Speed.
The increase in performance translates to a faster car. The top speed is up 3mph to 205mph from the old car and 0-62 time is also shaved – from 4.3 seconds to just 4 seconds.
To keep up with the performance increase, the chassis of the car has been made stiffer and tweaks to the suspension has been made, resulting in a more agile, responsive and sportier driving characteristic.
For improved driver feedback, the steering has also been tweaked the ride height is made lower. Gripping is handled by 275/35R Pirelli PZero tires, accompanying big 21” wheels.
The new Bentley also gets a new and more efficient ZF automatic gearbox which helps bring the fuel consumption and the emissions of the car down by as much as 12% compared to the lowered powered Continental GT W12. Though the figures still sit at 19mpg and 338g/km respectively, which is still pretty high, it is after all, a rich man’s car who cares little for the environment.
There hasn’t been a final say about the price of this year, but orders will start at the Goodwood festival of speed. Deliveries should start in October. But do expect to fork out about £150,000 for the car.
