The Jaguar is set to unleash its all-new sports car codenamed the XE. The £40,000 motor is rivalled with the Porsche Boxster and according to a source in the company it will “blow the rest of the industry away”
The car is not expected on sale until next year, and a source has suggested that Jaguar will unveil a concept car at the Frankfurt motor show in September, Jaguar will hope that this will out do the newest Porsche 911 and more of the German car industry in their own country.
With the styling of the XE, it’s understood that it is flowing the philosophy of “expressing lightness” This is a Jaguar styling principle and should result in the shape of future models “visually reflecting” that the cars are made entirely of aluminium.
The rare 1963 Lightweight model will be one of the vehicles that the XE is styled after, some of the car will look familiar to the E-type, as insiders have reveled that the XE has been conceived in the spirit of the E-type.
The XE is modelled around Jaguars next-generation aluminium roadster platform. The car will be 4.3 metres long which is 450mm shorter than its XK sister due in 2014. the car will be as wide as their biggest car because of the large transmission tunnels demanded by the rear drive layout.
The XE will be thought to contain a V6 petrol engine in the aspirated and supercharged forms. Also being thought about by Jaguar is a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit. Combined with the XE’s aluminium construction, an 8 speed automatic gearbox and stop start technology. This should also give remarkable economy and CO2 figures for a car in its class.
