Rumours are flying about around the idea that Land Rover are going to scrap the Defender, and at the moment the Defenders future is in the hands of the bosses.
Land Rovers UK’s MD said how they are thinking of new ideas for the 4×4 Defender, and “if we get it wrong we are messing up one of the industry’s biggest icons” and explained how “it’s a tremendous responsibility. Green said how they are considering ideas to extend the life of the motor by fitting cleaner engines, that or a completely new design to the model.
with the car being on sale since 1947, and it meeting the V emission regulations until 2016, the company know it will be a loss to the company as they have been servicing that customer base for many years now.
Green also said “Another option is to carry on the current model using Euro VI engines. A third is that we abandon that section of the market. It’s our least preferred choice because we have serviced that customer base for a long time, but there’s no point in servicing the customer and not the business. We have to make money and all three options are on the table”
The defender has had numerous models since 1947, and have had the motor used in the police force and used by the army. Also released were special edition Defenders such as the 50th Anniversary Defender and the Tomb Raider 90 Special Edition. Prices for the Defender range from £21,000 to £31,000 which is the price for the XS Station Wagon.
